2018 proves to be a year for sci-fi and superhero fans with the first half of the year showing a solid start with a strong line up of sci-fi movies such as Black Panther, Pacific Rim Uprising, Ready Player One, A Quiet Place, and of course, Avengers: Infinity War.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

The force is strong with Star Wars fans as they get to see another instalment of the popular movie franchise just months after The Last Jedi in December. Solo is the story of everyone’s favourite space smuggler and takes place before Han joins the Rebellion.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Dinosaurs will never get old. A follow-up to the Jurassic World movie in 2015, Chris Pratt returns only to discover that all life on the island is in danger of extinction from an impending volcano eruption.
Ant-Man and the Wasp

One of the most-awaited upcoming sci-fi movies is this action-filled Marvel set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and Wasp teams up to embark on a new mission. Be ready for more big adventures from our tiny superheroes.
Replicas

Release: August 24, 2018
One of the upcoming sci-fi movies, Replicas, is a story of a scientist desperately trying to replicate his family after a car crash. The movie stars Keanu Reeves and touches on the ethics of cloning and robots. The movie seems to have a promising premise.
The Predator

Definitely not a remake or reboot, The Predator is the fourth instalment of the sci-fi alien movie franchise situated between Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010). The movie showcases the classic soldiers versus aliens plot line.
Venom

Better known as one of Spider-Man’s villains, Venom will also hit the big screen this year. The trailer depicts a much darker tone to the movie which will be interesting to see. Despite being a Marvel villain, Marvel Studios did not get involved in the movie and will not integrate the storyline with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

Release: November 21, 2018
The 3D-animated movie sequel to Wreck-It Ralph will break cinemas by November. The story is now set after six years and follows Ralph and Vanellope’s adventure through the internet. Watch out for some interesting appearances including all the Disney Princesses, C-3PO, R2-D2 and Yoda from Star Wars, and Gamora and Iron Man from the Marvel Comics.
Mortal Engines

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, cities are now mounted on wheels and survive by ‘eating’ smaller cities to replenish resources. With the desolate environment and intricate machinery seen in the trailer, Mortal Engines seems reminiscent of steam punk and Mad Max.
Alita: Battle Angel

Release: December 21, 2018
Based on the manga (Japanese comic) Battle Angel Alita comes another sci-fi movie produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau. Alita follows the story of a young woman discovering the truth about herself and her purpose. With action-packed scenes and decent CGI, Alita seems promising.
Bumblebee
Release: December 21, 2018
A spin-off and prequel to the Transformers 2007 movie, Bumblebee shows the story of the iconic transformer taking refuge in a small town in California. Found by a teenage girl named Charlie, Bumblebee is revived in his yellow Volkswagen bug form.
